Invasion Biology Select topics dealing with the ecology and evolution of biological invasions, including the impacts of invasive species on ecosystems and society (i.e., via ecosystem services), ecological and evolutionary hypotheses for invasiveness, and a discussion of the management of invasive species and invaded ecosystems in an interdisciplinary framework. The class will be a mix of lectures, reading of and discussion of the primary literature, including student-led discussions and presentations. Prerequisites: Ecology BIOL 355 or 373; 2-credits Advanced Ecology (Graduate Level) BIOL 534
Modern ecology seeks to quantify and understand the distribution and abundance of organisms, to identify feedbacks between species, communities and ecosystem function, and to analyze the patterns and mechanisms of energy flow and material cycling. This course seeks graduate-level understanding of fundamental ecological concepts and theory, and in the application of ecological theory to understanding the effects anthropogenic change on ecological systems. 4-credits
